Proposals for technology parks in Brazil

09Brazil should require public and private investments to the tune of 10.2 billion reais in the period of five years, so that the organization of its innovation process and its businesses can make a quantum leap in terms of quality. The creation of approximately 20 technology parks in strategic regions of the country should serve as an impetus. Brazil's investment in technology parks is part of proposals from the study "Technology Parks in Brazil", carried out by the National Association of Entities Promoting Innovative Business (Anprotec) and released on 13 November at a forum on nanotechnology. Jose Eduardo Fiat, the Anprotec advisor and coordinator of

the study, "it suggests strategies for the country is preparing for the actual creation of a knowledge industry, with its point of departure a structuring of new technology parks in Brazil. " Indeed, the technology park is a structure that provides an enabling environment for knowledge turns into development. In addition to having easier access to technology, the company will be at the heart of a network of relationships that fosters innovation process, and will finally better market penetration. The parks will be created that relate to areas of information technology and communication, energy, biotechnology, electronics, instrumentation, services, environment and agro - business. The "Technology Parks in Brazil" was conducted between February 2007 and March 2008, in partnership with the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI), and on request of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Development, and Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade in Brazil. A series of workshops took place, bringing together specialists in technology parks in Brazil, but also from other countries. Thus, the system of technology parks in Brazil has been compared to similar initiatives in France, the United Kingdom, Spain, Ireland, Finland, Japan, China, India, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand and the United States. The simulation study of the investments were made based on comparisons of resources for parks in those countries. The study results also support the technology parks of the State of Sao Paulo, which began in 2002. The objective of the federal government of Sao Paulo is the installation of parks in some of the major centers of economic and technological development, such as Grande Sao Paulo, Campinas, Sao Carlos, Ribeirao Preto and Sao Jose dos Campos. Other cities are candidates for technology parks, as Piracicaba, Sao Barbara do Oeste, Sorocaba and Sao Jose do Rio Preto. With this study, Anprotec management intends to stimulate the public to define what will be the 20 parks that will be able to receive these intentions. Following the survey, the Anprotec also believes that, of the 10.2 billion reais to propel technology parks in Brazil, only 1.9 billion reais would come from the government, and the rest would come from private .
