Moosa, Friedrich – geologist

Freidrich Mohs (born January 29, 1773 - died Sept. 29, 1839) German geologist and mineralogist. MMA was born in Gernrode (Germany), studied at the University of Halle and Mountain Academy in Freiberga. In 1802 he moved to Austria, where he was responsible for identifying the minerals in a private collection Bankera and developed a classification of minerals on the physical properties. In 1812, became a professor at Graz, in 1818 - Professor at Freiberga, in 1826 - a professor in Vienna. Friedrich von Moos has developed a scale of hardness of minerals, which are still used for rapid diagnosis. MMA had died during the trip to Italy in a place Agordo near Belluno.
