Japan is considering a mission of service to the mobile telecommunications from satellite

e21Japan is considering a mission communications to mobile terminals (MSS, or Mobile Satellite Service) from a satellite. This mission called for the moment STICS (Satellite / Terrestrial Integrated mobile Communication System) would provide additional land to the cellular network for remote areas (like many mountain areas of Japan, its many islands or vessels located on the high seas), but especially for the areas "classics" in the case where terrestrial networks are rendered inoperative by a natural disaster. The satellite will be able to communicate with mobile terminals the size of existing phones, rather than the large and dedicated terminals that

The satellite STICS, placed on a geostationary orbit would provide communications services in S-band (around 2.6 GHz). It is anticipated that using a large deployable antenna in orbit (30 meters in diameter) of the kind that are currently used on the ETS-VIII mission.
